Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that supports in accessing your brain’s own healing power to process and move through traumatic and distressing experiences from the past. EMDR is a structured approach to therapy and will feel different than talk therapy. EMDR has been proven to support people in recovering from symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, addiction, and many other challenging life experiences.

How Does It Work?

In EMDR therapy, we will move through 8 phases of work together. EMDR therapy uses Dual Attention Stimulus (DAS) throughout the 8 phases which can look like tapping, eye movements, or sounds to name a few.

Throughout the 8 phases we will engage in history taking and planning, resource building, assessment, accessing memories, and checking in on how you are feeling in mind and body. EMDR does not require you to share the specifics of any events/memories and there is no set pace for how quickly to move through each phase. As a clinician, my goal is to support you throughout the process in finding a pace that feels safe and accessible. You can also learn more about how it all works on the EMDRIA website. I believe it is important for you to feel informed about any work that we would do together so please feel free to ask me anything about this process!

EMDR & Eco-Therapy

If you are interested in Eco-Therapy and also feel that EMDR could be beneficial for you, there are ways that they can work together very well! Eco-Therapy is the overarching approach that I use in all of my work. I believe that Eco-Therapy is the work of coming home to our own natures and to our reciprocal relationship with Nature. EMDR is an approach that can help you move through distressing and traumatic experiences that may be keeping you from feeling connected to yourself and the world. Eco-based work can be a support for EMDR throughout all 8 phases and I would love to chat if you are curious to learn more!
